Ensemble Amaranthos

Marta Gonçalves flute
Sara Deborah Struntz violin
Claire Bracher viola da gamba
Erik Dippenaar harpsichord
Elektra Miliadou violoncello

This exciting and dynamic group is formed of five graduates from the Royal College of Music. Ensemble Amaranthos is a period ensemble which aims to combine a unique interpretation and performance with an informed and accurate use of performance practise techniques. In following this desire, Amaranthos are contributing to the building of bridges in communicating, conveying and keeping alive our important cultural heritage.

Their rare instrument combination of flute, violin, viola da gamba, cello and harpsichord offers a rich spectrum of tone colours and opens up a wealth of repertoire possibilities from early consort music to late baroque.

London- based Ensemble Amaranthos regularly performs in concert venues in the UK and Europe. They were finalists at the York Early Music Young Artists Competition 2007. As individuals they perform with early music ensembles including the OAE, Florilegium, The Sixteen, Weser Renaissance and Sirius Viols.

The name Amaranthos stems from a Greek flower that never wilts.
